SHACKLES
A shackle is used for interconnecting components in lifting, tensioning and staying systems. A shackle consists of a body, a removable pin and a locking device (where applicable) These are available in rated and no-rated types.
Rated shackles are suitable for lifting and conform to AS 2741 or relevant international standards.
Non-rated shackles are not approved for lifting and may include commercial, stainless steel, DIN Grade or shackles that are designed for use for marine/mooring applications.

Shackles consist of two main parts:
Shackle Body
The body can be Bow type (also known as Anchor type) or Dee type (also known as Chain type) The
diameter of the material used to manufacture the body determines the nominal shackle size.
Shackle Pin
The most common types are Screw Pin or Safety (Bolt type) Pin shackles. The diff erent combinations of
bodies and pins results in four main types of shackles and your choice for the application will depend on
the type of lifting or pulling operation being undertaken.
• Screw Pin Bow Shackles: used in temporary, multiple (max 60° angle) and single attachment point
applications
• Screw Pin Dee Shackles: used in temporary, single attachment point applications
• Safety Pin Bow Shackles: used in semi-permanent, multiple (max 60° angle) and single attachment
point applications
• Safety Pin Dee Shackles: used in semi-permanent, single attachment point applications.
